Have you ever faced an unplanned pregnancy?
-
Do you wonder about coils, implants, condoms, pills and other types of contraception?
-
Would you like to know how to avoid catching a sexually transmitted disease like HIV?
- Are you a victim of Domestic Violence or Rape?
You have come to the right place. This blog is for women like yourself who have to deal with sexual health dilemmas.
But why should you listen to me?
Five years ago, I was faced with an unplanned pregnancy and I still remember the agony of trying to decide what to do. I went on to have my lovely daughter but this event made me aware that, just like me, many women face such difficult and life-changing decisions. Maybe, I thought, they’d appreciate a place to talk about these subjects.
As a family physician, I see the distress women go through when they decide to have an abortion. I witness the trauma felt by patients who have been diagnosed with HIV and the devastating effect that this disease has on their relationships.
It hurts me to see young girls having their reproductive systems messed up by gonorrhoea or chlamydia. If only they knew how to make better sexual choices! Imagine the heartbreak they would feel if these completely avoidable illnesses made them infertile later on. Imagine not being able to be a mother and knowing that your own poor decisions caused that…
My mission is to educate women on the contraceptive choices available to them and to help end abortions and unplanned pregnancies. I also love to empower people to make better, more informed decisions about their sexual well-being, showing them, for example, how they can prevent sexually transmitted infections.
One way of doing this is to blog on issues that affect women like Rape, Domestic Violence, contraception, abortion and sexually transmitted infections at http://sexualwellbeingnetwork.org
